Safeguarding

Overview

The welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults is an absolute priority for the Church.
The Diocese of Carlisle - and the Church of England nationally - take their responsibilities for safeguarding these groups very seriously, and the Diocese accepts the C of E House of Bishops’ policies relating to them:
Protecting all God's Children
Safer Recuitment: guidelines for all who work on behalf of the Church of England
Promoting a Safe Church
Responding to domestic abuse

We in the Diocese of Carlisle had begun work on our own revision of our Policies in the light of the new House of Bishops’ policies and of recent changes in legislation/regulation (which are now being re-considered by Government). We hope to complete our revision after we have seen what the Government decides (and the Church’s national response) - probably by the autumn.
NB One known change is that, although the two areas of safeguarding children and of safeguarding vulnerable adults are distinct, we intend to have a single safeguarding Diocesan policy and will expect parishes to have a single safeguarding policy and rep.
